WELCOME TO BUTEO BIRD NERD

My Name is Deb and I am a self proclaimed BIRD NERD and I am pretty proud of it. Whether I am in the woods looking for them or watching them out my window birds make me happy. This page and my accompanying blog are to help share by birdwatching excursions and to continue learning about birds. It is such a challenging and rewarding hobby. It has led me to bird/nature photography and also some other artistic endeavors. I hope you will follow my birding journey and hopefully together we will learn about these amazing creatures! Check out my Blog and Vlog as well as some of my bird photography and art that  has been inspired by these beautiful creatures. Thanks and good birding!

There are some great places to birdwatch in Connecticut and Rhode Island. I have listed my favorite birding spots below and through my vlog I will take you to all the great spots that I visit and show you what I am lucky enough to see.
Go to the list of my favorite birdwatching places now

I have always been an artist and once I discovered the hobby of birdwatching it seemed natural to mix the two passions. I have often painted birds but I really love photographing them. Also, a while back I had started woodburning boxes with designs and inevitably birds ended up on them as well. 🙂 Check in the featured works and click on Vlogs to see some of my You Tube videos or check or the other tabs for photos and artistic endeavors!

Identifying birds can be hard. My hope is to help you with bird Identification through visual, habitat, audio and behavioral queues. In addition, I will be trying different locations to birdwatch which I will give information about. Hoping that together we will both keep learning!

FEATURED WORKS

As a birdwatcher, I wanted to be able to remember the beauty of the birds I was seeing. It was an easy transition to start bringing my camera with me and do my best to take some photos of the birds. It also helped if I didn’t know the bird, then I could look at the photo for help. As with birding, it is challenging and fun. As I have gotten better I have actually framed some :). If you are interested in purchasing any of my photos please send me an email.

Over 400 species of birds either breed, are resident, migrate through, or winter in New England. Some of these birds have a fairly small range and other birds are found throughout the region at different times during the year. LATEST BIRD NEWS

Birds are everywhere and they are also in the news quite often. Below are some of the latest news stories that have appeared in the news.

BIRDING INFORMATION

Black Capped Chickadee

One of the things I really love about birdwatching is that there is always something to learn. When you begin, you just want to learn which birds are visiting your feeder and what they eat. Then you see a bird in your yard that you don’t recognize and you want to know more than just the birds that visit your feeders. Before you know it, you are curious about the bird songs you hear and which birds are making them. All of this leads you to beyond your backyard. You can be interested in learning certain types of birds such as; warblers, hawks, or ducks. You can focus on visitors to your state or become interested in birds across your country or in other countries. There really is so much to learn and explore, and so many beautiful birds to see.

The best way to explore is to learn. I use multiple resources all the time. I listen to podcasts, check ebird for local sightings, watch videos on Bird Academy  and play Larkwire to help learn birdsongs.

Other  ways to get involved include all the great organizations where you can meet others with similar interests, sign up for bird walks or trips and attend meetings.

I have listed just a few that I regularly visit, listen to or explore. I hope you find them as helpful as I have.
